Update on Archie
For two years, Archie waited.
He didn’t know he was waiting, of course. He only knew that the ground beneath his paws was always rough, that the walls of the shed kept the wind off his back but never truly felt like home, and that, no matter how much he loved his person, he remained outdoors—alone.
Then, one day, his person left him behind, leaving his owner’s sister to step up for Archie. He didn’t understand why his whole world had suddenly changed. Why the one constant in his life had disappeared. Realizing she couldn’t give him the life he needed, the difficult decision was made to rehome him.
Now, at two years old, Archie is finally getting the chance to start over. He is a gentle, goofy, “velcro” dog who wants nothing more than a friend. He’s learning the comfort of soft beds, the joy of tasty treats, the warmth of human hands scratching behind his big, floppy ears. He’s discovering that love isn’t temporary—that it can be real, and safe, and forever.
But just as things were beginning to look up for Archie, he faced an unexpected fight for his life. Less than a week before his scheduled neuter and gastropexy (stomach tacking) surgery, Archie’s stomach suddenly began to twist on Valentine’s Day—a life-threatening emergency for deep-chested dogs like him. Every second counted.
He was rushed to Riverview Animal Hospital, where Dr. Shawn Clark and his team worked quickly to save him, successfully untwisting and tacking his stomach. The emergency procedure was incredibly costly, but it gave him what he needed most: more time. More time for belly rubs. More time for slow walks in the sunshine. More time to find the home he’s been waiting for.
Archie’s past has left its marks—his skin is still healing, his paw pads are a bit worn for his age, and his jowls tell the story of a life spent outdoors. To give him the best future possible, we’re continuing his medical care. His neuter is still ahead, an important but costly procedure for a dog his size, and because of this, his adoption fee will be slightly higher—not because we believe he is worth more than any other dog, but because we are committed to setting him up for a long, healthy life.
Thanks to the quick action of his veterinary team, Archie’s tail is still wagging and his love-filled spirit is still shining. Now, he’s perfectly healthy and ready to belong—to find the person who will let him inside, not just into their home, but into their heart.
If you’d like to help cover the cost of Archie’s ongoing care, donations of any amount are deeply appreciated: https://parkersanimalrescue.networkforgood.com/projects/86309-donate-to-parker-s-animal-rescue
